Ok I know this post came abit late...but better late than never.....
The days or should I say week that I have been waiting for. Special Olympics National Games happens only once every 4 years. This year was the 7th National Games which was held on the 5th June - 9 June 2009.
At the 6th National Games, I was only a rookie to LGS so I was not part of the whole school committee. I remembered just volunteering to cover up one of the teachers/coach that had to go back for th night. It was kind of a blur memory (not sure why).
This year, me and Naz was so looking forward to it (since both of us volunteered the last time we had fun!) However, due to certaing people (which I don't want to bother to mention!), it kind of sucks! But we are very proud of our track and field team, which we both personally trained with the assistance and volunteers, Jess & Phyllis(what would we do without them!). We managed to bring back 6 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 6 consolation medals. Wohhooo!!! We actually did very well considering it is our first olympic! And most of our athletic are virgins to olympics, which means this is their first olympics too!!!! We are so ecstatic for them!!!! The feelings of knowing that you trained them, you were there for them at that everystep and knowing that the medal they've won is something no one else can give them but they themselves had to work for, it is just over the top. We both know that everyone of that athlete has done thier very best and that is all we want th\em to prove.
The outreach team which I had coach and trained together with Soul also won a gold medal. Believe me, this medal means a lot to each of them. Because they know, that they might not be smart and "normal" like other boys and girls, but they are just as competitive and to them wining is proving that they are best at something that other people are not. They trained hard so they deserve it. And I feel so proud of them that no words could describe it!
My only downside?? I would not be able to continue to train these wonderful kids who has so much potential in them myself. I only hope the next person to take over me will have the same passion, sense of commitment and responsibilities to these kids as much as I had. Cos I know some of the teachers in special school are full of shits and excuses!
